BRSC Update

March 26th, 2008

Dear Families:
It’s our hope this message finds everyone enjoying the spring break, and time off to recharge. Here are the latest of what’s going on with the Bearcats this spring/summer. As always, feel free to pass this on to anyone not on this list.
1. Spring season starts this coming Monday, 3/31. This schedule is from 3/31 thru 6/13 (or the end or school). There have been some changes to practice times, and coaches to groups - so read carefully.
2. Practice times are: AG1, Tu/Th, 6-7pm, with Coach Kate. AG2, MWF, 6:30-7:30pm with Coach Al. AG3, Mon-Fri, 6:15-7:45 with Coach Kei. Sr. Preps, Mon-Fri, 4:30-6:30pm with Coach Al. Srs., Mon-Fri, 4-6pm, with Coach Kate. MWF, 5-6:30am, starting Mon., 4/14. AG3, Sr. Preps, and Srs. will be doing dryland for some part of their practice, generally the first 15-30 minutes.
3. Group changes have been mailed to our swimmers. Hopefully, they have received their certificates, and a note of the change in practice times. Congrats to those swimmers who have successfully moved up!
4. Congrats to all our sectional swimmers for their efforts. The senior sectional women finished 8th overall, topping the list of Oregon teams. The overall placing of the team was 16th. At the AG Sectionals, BRSC finished 29th overall with the girls in 15th and the boys in 38th. At the Pacific Crest Chps., our swimmers again showed some great time drops and were rewarded with medals and ribbons galore! Congrats to all our competitors!!
5. Billing statements will include fees for all the meets in March. Senior Sectionals fees: $10 surcharge, $9 per ind. event, $6 per relay. AG Sectionals fees: $10 surcharge, $6 per ind. event, $3.50 per relay. Pac. Crst. Chps. fees: $4. surcharge, $3 per ind. & relay event. They will also show Aprils dues as well. For those who sent in their dues during the break, thanks.
6. We are NOT having a mass tryout this spring. With so few slots available, the coaching staff decided against having this. Instead, if you know of anyone interested, we will hold “individual” tryouts - but we have limited openings for AG1/2/3 levels only.
7. Coach Kate has put up all the signup sheets for this coming spring/summer season. The meet schedule is:
May: 2nd-4th - THSC Inv. ABC @ Beaverton, OR. 16th-18th - CAT AB Open @ Corvallis, OR.
June: 13-15th - Mike Morris Inv. ABC @ Amazon Pool, Eugene, OR.
July: 11-13th - ECSC Inv. ABC @ Echo Hollow Pool, Eugene, OR. Also, 12-13th - OSI 10 & under Chps., QT’s only @ Albany, OR. 15-19th - Sr. Sectionals QT’s only @ MHCC, Gresham, OR. 24-27th - OSI 11 & over Chps., QT’s only @ Echo Hollow, Eugene, OR.
August: 4-8th - Jr. Nat’ls, QT’s only @ Minneapolis, MN.
Choice here: 8-10th, either Bend Inv. or GC “BIG Kahuna Open” in Coos Bay. We’ll go to whichever meet has the most signups, but not both.
If you have any questions, feel free to contact Al @ 503-370-6601. Enjoy the rest of your break!

BRSC Update

March 10th, 2008

Dear Families:
I do hope this message finds everyone well, enjoying the sunshine and fairly nice weather. It’s better than getting snowed in like it has been back east!! As always, feel free to pass this on to those not on my list.
1) Congrats to Coach Kate and the Senior squad for their performances this past weekend at the Senior Sectional Championships. The women’s squad finished in 7th place overall, being the top Oregon team that attended. Special congrats to Tori Simenec for making an Olympic Trial qualifying time in the 100 Butterfly!! There were nine (9) athletes who participated, Amber Boucher, Hannah Braun, Allison Clark, Crystal Kibby, Sammi Mischkot, Tori Simenec, Adam Hansen, Kyle Wicks, and Eamon Ford. Again, congrats to all!!
2) Entries have been sent for the Pacific Crest Championships to be held in Lebanon this weekend. This is a split format competition, with 10 & unders in the morning, and 11 & overs in the afternoon. Warmup/start times are: Sat. 9:00am/10:15 start for 10 & unders, 1:15/2:45pm for 11 & overs. On Sunday, 8:00/9:15am for 10 & unders, 11 & overs 12:15/1:45pm.
3) The last practice session in the WU pool of the short course season is upon us. I will try and word this correctly, but if you have questions, feel free to call/ask coaches. Seniors will have their last practice on Tues., 3/11, but have practice options in Corvallis from Wed. thru Sat. am - check with Kate. Senior preps last practice is Wed., as Al will be traveling to Seattle for AG Sectionals on Thursday. AG1’s last practice is Thurs., at the regular time. AG2 & 3’s last practice will be Friday, but will be with Coach Kei at the regular time. We ask that only those athletes going to Pac. Crest attend Friday’s practice - to alleviate space, different abilities, etc. for Coach Kei.
4) To all high school athletes and parents, as I mentioned before, Coach Jim Montrella is visiting our club this week, and will be presenting a brief forum on college swimming. He will be conducting this in Currey classroom, Tues., 3/11, from 5:45-7:00pm and you are invited to attend. Again, we ask that ONLY high school athletes & parents attend this, as space is limited. Jim will be here today (mon.) thru Wednesday to evaluate our club, coaches, practices, etc.
5) Our two (2) week break will thus commence on Friday, 3/14. We will “restart” for the summer long course season on 3/31. We hope to have any group changes notified by the restart date, and as of now the practice times will remain the same. If there are changes, we’ll inform everyone.
6) Every family should have received the “proposed” by-law changes. If you have questions, feel free to ask me, or Randy Rasmussen about them. I understand the confusion, but that’s why the parents’ meeting has been called, April 2nd, 6:00pm. If you will be attending, please RSVP to me - so I can reserve a room appropriate to size of participants.
7) I have a very small list of parents who are willing to undergo officials training. If you are further interested, contact me. We have approached OSI about holding an officials clinic and they will get back to me about possible dates, times.
Have a safe and relaxing break.

Pac Crest entries

March 5th, 2008

Parents:
This is the last couple days before we send in the entries to the Pacific Crest Championships, held in Lebanon, 3/15-16. I currently have the signup sheet (as well as the one for the B/C meet in Corvallis that was cancelled), and if you want to attend the Lebanon meet, but your name is on the Corvallis sheet, let me know and I’ll get your swimmers changed to the appropriate sheet.
Hope that makes sense!
Thanks,
Al Stephenson
