BRSC Update #2

November 28th, 2007

Dear Families:
Here are some additional updates for all to absorb.
1) As I thought - I forgot to mention one of our Top 5 recipients. JACOB COCHRAN was also a winner at the banquet a couple weeks ago. Please pass on congratulations to him as well.
2) Kathy Kibby has some BRSC lost & found articles, found at the WSC Invitational in Springfield. The items can be claimed by calling her at: 503-743-4353.
3) David Tran has written me about a very harmful computer virus, and wished to pass this on to all. It will ‘burn’ your whole hard disc drive “C” is opened. DO NOT OPEN a message with an attachment file called ‘Invitation’, regardless of who sent it, and if you receive the message, shut down your computer immediately. If you have further questions, I suggest you contact David
4) Here is Kate’s senior practice schedule during Christmas. If you have further questions, contact her after practice. Mon., 12/17, 3-5pm; Tues/Wed, 12/18&19, 7-9am & 3-5pm; Thurs., 12/20, 7-10am; Friday, 12/21, 3-5 pm; Sat., 12/22, 7-10am OFF: 12/23-24-25 Wed., 12/26, 3-5pm; Thurs. & Fri., 12/27 & 28, 7-9am & 3-5pm; Sat., 12/29, 7-10am OFF: 12/30-31& 1/1. BRSC Update

November 27th, 2007

Dear Families:
I hope this message finds everyone well, recovering from the excess “bulge” around our middle, and staying warm and healthy through the bout of cold and nasty weather. Here’s the latest of what’s happening with BRSC!
1) Congrats to our Top 5 swimmers! A couple weekends ago, they were each given a trophy and insignia patch commemorating their achievements for the past year. I know I’m going to miss someone, but here are the names: Cole Rumrill, Mackenzie Rumrill, Allie Rasmussen, Jeffrey Tran, Kyle Wicks, Crystal Kibby, Tori Simenec, Amber Boucher, and Natascha Mangan.
2) Congrats also go to Tori Simenec for being nominated as Female Athlete of the Year, Coach Kate for being nominated as Senior Coach of the Year, and Coach Al for winning the inaugural Coaches Excellence Award.
3) The Eugene City swim competition warmups next weekend (12/7-9) are: Friday, 3:00pm, Sat/Sun. 10 & unders 7:45am - 8:45am, 11 & overs: 1:00pm-2:30pm. Check the bulletin board for entries and further information.
4) There will be a stroke and turn clinic for officials on Sat., 12/15, at 9:00am at the Chehalem pool in Newberg. We strongly encourage any interested parent to go and become a certified official. I foresee in the future that if BRSC does not have any officials at any competitions, we will not be invited to attend those competitions. Additionally, the club will pay any registration and mileage fees for all participants upon completion of the course.
5) Christmas/winter break practices are: NO PRACTICE for age groupers on 12/24, 12/25, 12/31, and 1/1. Kate will have her seniors practicing from 3-5pm, starting 12/17-12/28, and AG3 will practice from 5:15-6:15 during that same date frame. All other groups will remain at their appointed time slot. It is important to know that the Sparks center will be “closed” during this time, so access will be limited to the pool/lockeroom area only.
6) Check the bulletin board for the next competition to sign up for: Hillsboro Invitational, 1/25-27/08.
7) Lastly, the annual registration fee for our “older” competitors will be on this month’s billing statement. Again, those that joined this fall have already paid their registration. Next year, I anticipate doing this in the fall to avoid having an extra expense during the holiday season. The 2008 registration fee is $49.00.
Thanks for all your support, and stay healthy!!

BRSC Update

November 6th, 2007

Dear Families:
Here is the latest and greatest of our swim club. As always, feel free to pass on to those not on my list.
1) Congrats to all our swimmers for their performances at the last couple invitationals. It is pretty impressive seeing the time drops, all the awards, and the qualifying standards that are met. The Bearcats were First overall at the CST/Harvest Open, and I don’t know where we placed at McMinnville. I do know the results show all the hard work and dedication of our swimmers!
2) The results have been posted on the bulletin board, and in the parent book in the office. Again, I encourage all to keep tabs on their swimmer’s either thru logbook, electronic files, and even checking Oregon Swimming’s website tracking of every individual.
3) Billing statements have been printed and will be placed in swimmer’s folders today. Please pay the balance, as I want to “close out” this billing cycle and make the statements shorter in length. Kind of my part for the “green” movement.
4) We will be offering a garage sale in the near future. Over the past few months/years, we have accumulated a bunch of clothing that is taking up space. So, we’ll offer up anything in the box for a set price. Items include various t-shirts, shorts, sweatshirts & pants, suits (new & lost/found), etc. This might be a great present, or cheap way to gear up your swimmer for a low price!
5) Many thanks to those parents doing their part by volunteering their time at meets to time. This is a responsibility the staff asks everyone to do or get involved. The more that do it, the less time one has to spend on deck, and it’s a great way to meet and greet the swimmers - whether from our team or others.
Thanks to all for your support,
Al Stephenson 503-370-6601
