Long Course/Summer Swim Meet Schedule

March 29th, 2006

Yup that time already…..

Attached is the long course/summer meet schedule.   Please note this schedule is not set in stone yet BUT the sign up sheets for the first 3 meets will be posted at the pool starting this Monday and will come down Very Quickly.

Long course meets are very competitive to get into so the sooner the coaches can get our entries in, the better our chances at getting into meets.

Remember ~~~ Kids are back in the pool starting Monday, April 3rd.   Here is the revised practice schedule that was previously sent out by Al:

Groups 1 & 2 — Remain at the same time and days  (Al)
Group 3 — 5:15 - 6:15   (Tim has this group Mon/Wed/Fri and Kate has them Tues/Thurs)
Senior Prep — 6:15 - 7:45  (Tim)
Senior  –   6:00 - 7:45  (Dryland check w/Kate on times) (Kate)

Thanks everyone.

BRSC Updates

March 20th, 2006

Dear Families:
Here is the latest of what is happening from the pool. If you
have any further questions, feel free to call me, and as always, feel
free to pass this email on to others not on the list.

1) Spring break will start today, and continue for two (2) weeks.
NO PRACTICES for two (2) weeks, with practices recommencing April
3rd. The practice times will be:
AG1/2 5:15-6:15pm, Tu/Th AG1, MWF AG2 - with Al
AG 3 = 5:15-6:15pm, M-F, with Kate & Tim
Sr. Prep = 6:15-7:45pm, M-F, with Tim
Srs. I & II = 6:15-7:45pm, M-F, with Kate

2) Coach John has decided to take a break from coaching, and will
be missed. His coaching has been instrumental in seeing lots of
improvements by the swimmers in his group. We wish him well in
whatever his endeavors in the future.
3) We have had lots of great press lately - based on the
performances of some of our elite swimmers. It’s great to see, as
well as a great testament to the hard work and dedication of the
swimmers highlighted. With today’s article, and the announcement of
the high school all-region team, you will notice a lot of BEARCATs -
another success story for the club!! With more to come!!
4) Thanks to all who volunteered for the swim meet this past
weekend at Sparks. I thought it was very successful, I saw alot of
“new” parents volunteering, the swimmers competed very well with some
HUGE time drops, the visiting teams liked the format and had some
very positive comments, and the monies raised was pretty extensive!
Special thanks goes to Jen Johnson, Natalie Rodgers, Don Clifford,
Will Castanares, Susan Smith-Tripp, the DePuys, Joel Rumrill, Sue
Simenec, Kathy Kibby, Julie Mischkot for all their support & help.
5) As of this writing, I don’t know all the details of how our
swimmers did at Age Group Sectionals, but I do know we had a couple
#1 swims. Congrats to Sammi Mischkot (won the 500 Free), and Kyle
Wicks for their “early” success on Friday. When I learn more, I will
pass the info on for all to read.
6) Best wishes and good luck to our Jr. National swimmers leaving
this morning for Orlando, Fl. This is the first contingent to attend
this meet in over a decade from Salem - so now we need some males to
follow!!!
7) Billing statements will be put in swimmers folders next month,
upon your return to swimming. These will reflect all the meets thru
March - OSI’s various championships, AG/SR Sectionals, Pacific Crest
Inv., and Jr. Nat’ls.
8) We will have tryouts on the second Sat. in April - 4/11. If
you know of anyone interested in joining the team, feel free to pass
them my information 503-370-6601, email address, etc. It will be at
9am, in Sparks, Sat., April 11th.

Enjoy the break, travel safely, and congrats on a very successful
season.

Pacific Crest

March 19th, 2006

Good evening everyone!!

I am sure you are all tired of the emails flying around regarding Pacific Crest!!  I just wanted to send out a couple of quick emails.

First of all ~~~ THANK YOU, THANK YOU, AND THANK YOU!!!!  To all of the wonderful parents and swimmers who volunteered this past weekend.  We could not have pulled it off without all of your help.

Congratulations to all of the swimmers this weekend.  Many swam an event or two for the first time, first swim meet, and accomplished A times for the first time.  What a great way to end short course season.

On that note, remember, the club  (with the exception of our Junior National swimmers) is on a 2 week break.  Practices will resume on April 3rd.  Enjoy the down time and being home early in the evenings!!!

Good luck to the swimmers who are leaving tomorrow for Orlando for Junior Nationals.

I will send out one more email regarding Pacific Crest regarding fundraising.

Pacific Crest

March 17th, 2006

First off, I would like to extend a big thank you out to all of you who have been helping behind the scenes with getting things ready for Pacific Crest.  Your efforts have been appreciated by the coaching staff, Natalie, and myself.

The format this weekend is as follows:

Set up today starting at 1:30 pm.
Warm ups start:  4 pm
Meet starts at :  5 pm

Est. timeline to be done:  5:45 pm

We are still in need of a few more volunteers and this does not include lane timers.   Lane timing assignments will be posted just prior to the meet at the end of the pool.

Sat/Sun:

Warm ups:  7:30 am
Meet starts:  9:00

Est. timeline to be done:  12:30 +/-

On Sunday after the last event is done, we will need everyone’s help, including spectators to help clean up.  This will assure we all get out of there early.  A lot of people have put in a lot of hours to coordinate this meet and I am sure everyone would appreciate the ability to get home at a decent time.

Good luck to all of those swimmers participating this weekend!!!

Thanks again everyone!!!

Sectionals

March 16th, 2006

Hey John,
Just a note to wish you and kids good luck this weekend.  They will run the meets in two pools but with not a lot of kids you should be fine.   I’d like to keep Sammi’s yards up a little more than everyone elses due to her trip to Orlando, but if she gets second swims she should be fine with all the warm up/downs she does.  Amanda needs to be aggressive in all her races, not just her favorites.  Naugle needs to race with the intensity he raced you, I rarely see that in him.  Xochi needs to just catch the water a little better, she’s in the 50 so little yards for her just a bit of a warm up should do.  Ellen needs to go out faster than she thinks she should in everything!  Eamon, remember to streamline better off dives and off walls  and yes, do his breathing pattern in the fly.  Have fun in New York!

Pacific Crest

March 15th, 2006

Good evening everyone!!

The projected timeline for this weekend’s meet is as follows:
(Set up will begin at about 1:30 pm on Friday)
Friday night:  Warm ups at 4:00/  Meet starts at 5:00 pm  — Should be done in about an hour

Saturday/Sunday:  Warm ups 7:30 am/ Meet starts at 9:00 am.  Should be done around 12:30

With that being said:  WE ARE STILL IN NEED OF PARENT VOLUNTEERS FOR THIS WEEKEND.

There are quite a few parents who do not have swimmers competing this weekend that have signed up to volunteer, we could use more help from those who do have swimmers competing.  Let’s pull together as a team and host an outstanding meet that we can all be proud of.

The sign ups are still posted down at the pool.  Please take a moment to sign up for a shift and show your support for the swimmers, coaches, and parents.

Thanks everyone!
